KENT AND ESSEX INSHORE FISHERIES AND CONSERVATION AUTHORITY

Under the Marine and Coastal Access Bill a range of new powers and duties have been gained.  In response to the new remit of Kent & Essex IFCA, the need for several new IFCA Officer posts has been identified.

This is an opportunity for varied employment for those wishing to be involved at the front line of fisheries management. 

SENIOR SCIENTIFIC/CONSERVATION OFFICER  -

POST REFERENCE K&EIFCA-01/11

Based at Brightlingsea, Essex.

£26,422 to £30,219 (37 hours per week over 7 day period).

The post will include enforcement duties, hands-on survey of shellfish and finfish stocks and responsibility for development of survey plants, policy relating to environmental legislation and resultant implementation.  The post holder will report to the Chief IFC Officer.

The essential skills required are a Degree in Fisheries or a Marine Environment subject, DOT/RYA Level 2 Power boat, experience of fisheries management and enforcement of conservation regulations, intertidal and sub littoral surveys.  Also required is a basic understanding and experience in the GIS package (MapInfo).

This post is physically demanding and applicants must pass a Seaman’s medical (ENG1).In addition we require a good level of IT literacy including Word, Excel and Outlook, presentation skills, report writing, and communication via correspondence.

The ability to work on own initiative combined with being able to work as part of a team is essential.  Also required is experience/knowledge of working with the commercial fishing industry, angling sector and Marine Conservation NGOs. A current clean UK Driving licence will also be required.

INSHORE FISHERIES AND CONSERVATION OFFICER/FIRST MATE
POST REFERENCE K&EIFCA02/11

Based at either, Brightlingsea, Essex or in Ramsgate, Kent.

£20263 to £23053 (37 hours per week over 7 day period).
.

Essential skills required include GCSE/O Level passes (A to C) (or equivalent) in English and Maths, good knowledge of seamanship with at least 1 year’s experience as crew on a seagoing vessel with a proven ability in handling small boats.  Mechanical skills sufficient to carry out routine maintenance on patrol vessel, be IT literate and have the ability to communicate at all levels.

Knowledge of marine issues and the fishing industry is required as is the ability to pass a Seaman’s medical (ENG1).This post requires the carrying out of enforcement of fisheries legislation both on land and at sea, assistance with surveys and attendance at meetings both in Kent and Essex.  A current clean UK Driving licence will also be required.
